Three Overdose On Suspected Heroin

Three overdoses in two days has prompted Sarnia police to issue an advisory to the public.

Constable John Sottosanti says two women, ages 27 and 48, were taken to hospital by ambulance Monday for what is believed to be heroin overdoses.

He says both were separate incidences at different locations.

On Tuesday, officers responded to another call where they discovered a 27-year-old man who had collapsed on the ground and turned blue.

Sottosanti says an occupant had started CPR, but the man appeared lifeless.

He says the on duty Sergeant attended and administered Naloxone to the individual, who eventually came to and was taken to hospital.

Sottosanti says suspected drugs were located in two of the circumstances, but no charges were laid as part of the Good Samaritan Act.

He says the drug overdose legislation provides immunity from charges of simple possession of a controlled substance for individuals seeking emergency medical or law enforcement assistance.

Sottosanti says the Sarnia Police Service wants to remind people who live with or associate with someone suffering from a heroin addiction that free Naloxone kits are available at most local pharmacies or the Lambton Health Unit.

He says officers believed heroin was the only substance taken in all three cases, but they've not determined if the drug was laced with fentanyl powder.
