Caution Urged After Used Needles Found In Public

The discovery of used needles and a baggie of an unknown substance by the old Sarnia General Hospital Monday, has prompted an advisory from police.

While in the Essex St. area, a Sarnia woman and her teen son discovered the drug paraphernalia on the ground and immediately contacted police.

Constable John Sottosanti says officers have the proper equipment to safely remove the needles and residents shouldn't touch them.

"Another thing that parents should do is talk to their children and advise them not to be touching these needles if they see them on the ground," says Sottosanti. "Normally they have an orange cap on them but sometimes they don't and we have had incidents where young children have picked them up and poked themselves with them."

Officials also say anyone who is accidentally pricked by a needle should seek immediate medical attention.
