Over 100 Charges Laid In 402 Blitz

Lambton OPP say a total of 102 charges were laid in a two day enforcement blitz on Hwy. 402.

The blitz, conducted on August 23 and 24, also involved the Ministry of Transportation and Sarnia police.

OPP Constable Chris Doupe says they were looking at both commercial and passenger vehicles.

"In relation to the tractor trailers over the two day program, 52 tractors and trailers were investigated, seven of them were speeding, seven seatbelt, we had two distracted driving and nine other Highway Traffic Act offences," says Doupe. "A big issue we found gathering statistics, 18 of these tractor trailers were following too close."

Within a month, there were three multi-vehicle chain-reaction crashes on the westbound approach to the Blue Water Bridge involving transport trucks. One person was killed.

According to the OPP, inattentive driving was a factor in all three of those collisions.
