System Issues Causing Border Backup

Computer problems in the U.S. were causing significant delays at the Sarnia-Port Huron and Windsor-Detroit border crossings Wednesday.

The Federal Bridge Corporation was reporting delays of more than two hours for trucks crossing the Blue Water Bridge into the U.S.

Trucks were backed up on the Hwy. 402 approach to the bridge as far east as Airport Rd.

System issues were causing similar problems at the Ambassador Bridge.

The Detroit International Bridge Company says that United States Customs and Border Protection had been dealing with “national system issues”. In a statement, the bridge company says CBP is trying to work around the problems and that they are coordinating with other bridge operators and stakeholders.

Delays at the Ambassador Bridge for commercial vehicles entering the US have been as long as 90 minutes or more Wednesday, though private passenger vehicles have been able to cross the bridge without any significant delays. There have been no significant delays at the Windsor-Detroit Tunnel.

It is not known when the system issues on the American side will be corrected.
