First Recipient Of Point Edward Scholarship Named

A graduate of Bridgeview Public School and Great Lakes Secondary School is the first recipient of a generous Point Edward scholarship.

Daniel Marr was announced as the winner of the Maynard and Rene Walker Family Scholarship at the village's Canada Day celebration.

Marr, who has accepted admission to Lambton College this fall to study business administration, receives $5,000 US each year for the first two years of his post-secondary education.

Marr says he's so proud to be the first recipient of the scholarship.

"Thank you to Mary Ellen Walker and her family, the Village of Point Edward, my parents, sister and those who have helped me become the person I am today," says Marr. "They say it takes a village to raise a child and I couldn't agree more. I'm pretty proud to be a Point Boy."

Walker says "this scholarship was created to honour the memory of my parents and also to make post-secondary education more accessible for Point Edward youth."

High school grades and contributions to the village were the key deciding factors in the selection of the winning applicant.
