St. Clair Township firefighters extinguished a small fire in the landfill at Clean Harbors Monday afternoon.
Deputy Fire Chief Steve Bicum says the material was non-toxic and not a regulated product, although a precautionary shelter-in-place was ordered for homes on the north side of the plant for a short time.
He says they were at the Telfer Rd. site for a couple of hours and were able to put out the fire with water, which created clouds of steam.
There were no injuries.
