Point Edward Splash Pad Construction Underway (VIDEO & GALLERY)

A transformation near Point Edward's waterfront is well underway.

Underground services are being installed this week for the new splash pad, being built on the existing ball diamond at Livingston St. and Michigan Ave.

Village CAO Jim Burns said the work has attracted quite a bit of attention.

"I shot a quick video and posted it to Facebook last week and its been viewed almost 14 thousand times," he said Monday. "It's drawing quite a bit of interest."

He's confident it will enhance the area near the Blue Water Bridge.

"We have all the chip trucks and stuff and small businesses." said Burns. "Waterfront Park is a beautiful area and this is going to attract more people to the area and hopefully support the local community and help us develop some new businesses."

The village received $100,000 in federal funding from the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program to help pay for the $512,000 project.

Burns says they plan to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Confederation by hosting a grand opening for the splash pad Thursday, June 29.

He says it will be held on the same night as the Moonlight Farmers Market and plans for pizza and an outdoor movie are being discussed.
