Sarnia Council has approved, in concept, a new Bravery Award Policy to honour those who go above and beyond.

Sarnia Mayor Mike Bradley proposed the idea last November, after two men helped save the life of a man and his dog whose boat capsized in Lake Huron near Riding Club Lane in September 2016.

The award is being modeled on one similar in London, decided upon by emergency officials with the individuals recognized in a plaque presentation at City Hall.

Sarnia council has granted a noise by-law exemption to the County of Lambton for the overnight work associated with the resurfacing between Murphy Rd. and Finch Dr. and Lambton Mall Rd..

While the majority of work will take place at night, to reduce inconveniences to local businesses, minor work like curb repair and manhole adjustment will take place during the day.

Tenders for the project close in March.

Construction is expected to start in late June or early July, with night hours of 7pm to 6am and take four weeks.
