Stolen Truck Triggers Multi-Vehicle Crash (GALLERY)

Sarnia police are amazed there were no serious injuries after the driver of a stolen truck left a trail of damaged vehicles on Indian Rd. S. Thursday evening.

At around 5pm, police received a call about a stolen green Chevrolet Silverado in the 200 block of Campbell St.

While an officer was taking the report, there were calls that a green truck driving dangerously down Plank Rd. had caused multiple collisions on Indian Rd. S between Plank Rd. and Hwy. 40. Police say the vehicle was travelling at excessive speeds, driving head-on into traffic, forcing cars off the road and sideswiping others. Four vehicles were damaged and towed from the scene.

The suspect driver was arrested and taken to Sarnia Police Service Headquarters where police allege he refused to submit to any sort of alcohol or drug screening.

Police also say that before the series of collisions on Indian Rd., the suspect allegedly drove to and entered a home on Davis St., where he knew no one, and tried to steal a wallet.

A resident was able to retrieve the wallet from the suspect and he fled.

Daniel Cope, 35, of Sarnia, faces numerous charges including dangerous driving, possession of property obtained by crime, breach of probation and driving while impaired by drug.
