Sting Pound Petes In Peterborough

The Sarnia Sting scored early and often en route to a 6-1 win over the Petes in Peterborough Thursday night.

The Sting jumped out to a 4-0 first period lead despite taking five penalties in the opening 20 minutes.

Philadelphia Flyers draft pick Anthony Salinitri scored his first of three goals on the night, shorthanded, six minutes into the game. He also recorded an assist in the game and was named first star.

Nikita Korostelev continued his strong play with a goal and two assists. The Maple Leafs prospect has a team-leading 16 points in 9 games so far and he leads the entire OHL in goals with 11. Also scoring for the Sting were Jaden Lindo and Adam Ruzicka. Rookie Brady Hinz and Jordan Ernst had two assists each. Hinz has eight points including two goals in ten games.

Despite the lopsided score, Peterborough outshot Sarnia 39-27 but couldn't beat Sting goaltender Justin Fazio until nearly the halfway point of the final period. Dylan Wells gave way to Scott Smith after one period in the Peterborough net.

Sarnia was 1 for 2 on the power play and the Petes 1 for 6.

The Sting (8-2-1) play the Generals in Oshawa Friday night and have the rest of the weekend off.
