Employees Return To Fire Damaged Michigan Power Plant

Employees at the St. Clair Power Plant in Michigan are working to resume power generation at the fire damaged facility. DTE Energy reported via Twitter Tuesday that employees were able to access the plant's interior Monday after fire broke out last Thursday evening in a coal-fired generating unit, sending black smoke across the St. Clair River. The utility says most of the employees have returned to work to assist with repairs, however due to the evaluation processes they must follow, it's not clear when all generating units will be back up and running. DTE says service to its customers has not been impacted. The plant, slated to close between 2020 and 2023, has been in service since 1953.
