Final Phases Of Centennial Park Remediation Begin July 25

Sarnia City Engineering Department Operations Manager Bryan Prouse says workers will be constructing a new boat ramp near Sarnia Bay Marina, an armour stone wall, and new watermain across the north end of the park. As a result, the Front St. parking lot, Sarnia Bay Marina eastern parking lot, western entrance to the marina, and promenade area will be closed off until further notice. Phase three of the project begins August 1 and will include construction of a new boat ramp and the closure of the northwestern parking lot to store wood chips. Both stages are being done by Bre-Ex Construction of London for $7-million. The total scope of the project is expected to cost about $10-million. The park is expected to fully re-open to the public in November, weather permitting. This is the fourth straight summer that much of the park is closed off after the discovery of asbestos and other contaminants in May 2013.
