OPP Appealing To Drivers Ahead Of Long Weekend

Ontario Provincial Police will be out in full force this long Canada Day weekend with area highways expected to be extra busy.

Eight people died on OPP-patrolled roads during the week leading up to Canada Day, including a London man in a fiery crash near Delaware Monday.

West Region Sgt. Dave Rektor says safety is everyone's responsibility.

The main causal factors in crashes continue to be speed, impaired and distracted driving, and not wearing seat belts.

Rektor says a total of 128 people have been killed on OPP-patrolled roads so far this year.

He says police will also be present on waterways and trails to ensure the safety of boaters and ATV riders.
