Bumper Winter Wheat Crop

From feast to famine.

Last year Lambton County farmers had one of their worst winter wheat crops ever.

This year, Lambton County Grain Farmers President Kevin Marriott says it will be one of, if not the best, ever.

“It didn’t rain too much last fall. It had enough moisture to get started and it grew right through until the end of December,” Marriott says.

“It never had any cold weather to make it go dormant early and it just kept sending down roots.”

Lambton County farmers planted about 100,000 acres of wheat last fall, the largest wheat acreage of any municipality in Ontario.
