Crime Stoppers Ups Reward In Vandalism Spree

Sarnia-Lambton Crime Stoppers is upping the reward for information leading to the arrest of the person or persons responsible for a recent vandalism spree.

Coordinator Les Jones says investigations continue after the F-86 Sabre Golden Hawk at Germain Park and monuments and benches along the Point Edward waterfront were defaced.

"Due to the nature of these last two acts of vandalism, Crime Stoppers is offering double the rewards for a successful tip that leads to an arrest for anyone responsible for these acts," says Jones.

Golden Hawk Restoration Coordinator Mark Seibutis says he was upset to learn that vandals had targeted the recently refurbished monument.

"I'm having trouble myself grasping why people would basically trot on the memories of these people we are trying to honour, the very people that gave them the rights to walk around with a spray can in their pockets if they wanted," says Seibutis.

Seibutis says the clean up has started, but further repairs and painting will be needed to restore the monument.

Anyone with information about either incident is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
