Legionnaires Fall To Nationals

The Sarnia Legionnaires dropped the back half of a home and home with the London Nationals following a 5-3 defeat Thursday night at Sarnia Arena in GOJHL hockey action.

The loss comes one night after the two clubs skated to a 5-5 tie in London.

Jordan Fogarty got the scoring started for the Legionnaires with a one timer on the powerplay midway though the opening period. Ryan Vendramin and Brock Perry picked up the assists.

The Legionnaires took a 1-0 lead into the second frame before the Nationals opened the game up with five straight goals. Legionnaires goalie Aidan Hughes was taken out of the contest after the third London goal. Shayne Battler came in and allowed two goals on just two shots before Hughes was put back into the net.

Ethan Dupont and Ryan Vendramin scored third period goals to pull Sarnia to within two goals but that's as close as they would come.

With the loss, Sarnia is now 16-14-2-3 on the year, and remain 20 points behind the first place Leamington Flyers. The Nationals sit second in the division with a 21-9-4-1 record.

The Legionnaires capitalized on two of six powerplays while London went one for two with the man advantage. Sarnia was outshot 39-27 overall.

The Legionnaires return to the ice for a pair of road games this weekend. They'll be in Strathroy Saturday and in Leamington to take on the Flyers on Sunday.
