Sting Ward Off Attack

Justin Fazio recorded his second straight shutout and third of the season in a battle of goaltenders at the Sarnia Sports & Entertainment Centre Friday night.

Defenceman Jeff King's power play goal four minutes into the second period stood as the game winner as the Sting blanked the Owen Sound Attack 1-0 before a crowd of 2,783.

King hit a wide open net for his second goal of the year on a slick feed from Troy Lajeunesse. Pavel Zacha had the other assist.

The Sting dominated the first two periods but could only get the one goal past Montreal Canadiens prospect Michael McNiven.

Owen Sound carried the play in the third period, outshooting Sarnia 13-5 but Fazio and the Sting were able to ward off the Attack and hang on for the win.

Sarnia head coach Derien Hatcher,

The shots on goal were 31-25 in the Sting's favour in a fast paced game that was completed in one hour and 56 minutes.

Fazio was named the game's first star, McNiven received second star honours and King was the third star.

Hatcher was impressed by his specialty teams.

The win moved Sarnia (12-7-2) into sole possession of fifth place in the OHL Western Conference, two points ahead of the Attack.

The Sting have another home game Saturday night against the Niagara Ice Dogs who have seven wins in their last ten games.
