Legionnaires Down Nationals In Chippy Affair

The Sarnia Legionnaires picked up their fourth win in six games with a 4-2 victory over the visiting London Nationals (12-7-3-1) Thursday night in GOJHL hockey action.

Sarnia (11-8-1-2) jumped out to a 1-0 lead late in the first period on a wrap around goal by captain Hunter Tyczynski. Ryan Vendramin made it 2-0 early in the second period with his first of two goals on the night. John Warren and Rai Di Loreto scored for the Nationals. Brock Perry capped the game in the last ten seconds with an empty net goal.

Legionnaires Assistant Coach Justin Day says the team played a well-rounded game.

The game got out of hand midway through the third period. London's Matt Doty laid a hit from behind on Jacob Stos. That sparked three fights on the play and even saw a water bottle tossed from the London bench.

Sarnia's Sam McCormick and Zack Vanderwal face potential suspension for being involved in a fight while there was already one taking place.

The Legionnaires scored once on three powerplay chances and killed off five of London's six powerplays.

The Nationals finished the game with a 36-29 advantage on the shot clock. The Legionnaires now sit three points back of London in the Western Conference standings with 25 points.

The Legionnaires host the Leamington Flyers next Tuesday night at Sarnia Arena.
