Legionnaires Ground Rockets In OT

The Sarnia Legionnaires (4-3-1-1) downed the visiting Strathroy Rockets (4-3-1-1) 4-3 in overtime in GOJHL hockey action Thursday night.

The Legionnaires jumped out to a 1-0 lead just under four minutes into the game on a slap shot from the near faceoff circle by Alec DeKoning.

The game was tied 1-1 after the first period and remained that way until the third when Jarrett Marks and Hunter Tyczynski lit the lamp to make it 3-1 Legionnaires. The Rockets stormed back with pair of goals of their own, including one with the goalie pulled, to send the game to extra time.

Sarnia forward Brandon Layman scored the game-winner with just a minute left in OT on a failed poke check by Rockets goalie Dane Gubbels.

Legionnaires Head Coach Mark Davis is pleased with the outcome.

Sarnia's next game is next Wednesday night in LaSalle before hosting Strathroy again next Thursday.
