Legionnaires Fall To Stars In OT

The Sarnia Legionnaires dropped a hard fought 3-2 overtime decision at the hands of the visiting St. Thomas Stars in GOJHL play Thursday night.

St. Thomas jumped ahead 2-0 in the first period on goals from Lucas Mastroianni and Carson Brookshaw. Brad Yowart notched his first as a Legionnaire early in the 2nd frame and Jordan Fogarty tied it up on the powerplay just three minutes later.

The game remained tied until overtime when Matt McJannett potted the game winner on the powerplay for the Stars.

Legionnaires Head Coach Mark Davis says his team played well but he was unhappy with the spearing double minor that put his team shorthanded in OT.

Sarnia's Ryan Trottier took a four minute double minor for spearing while Carson Moniz was handed a two minute minor for holding the stick.

Legionnaires captain Hunter Tyczynski says he's been impressed by how the rookies have played so far this season.

Rookie goalie Aidan Hughes made 20 saves on 23 shots while Stars netminder Nicholas Dampier made 27 saves.

Sarnia went just 1/6 on the powerplay while the Stars went 1/5.

The loss puts Sarnia at 1-2-0-1 on the campaign while St. Thomas is now 3-2-0.

Next up, the Legionnaires head to Chatham on Sunday to battle the Maroons.
