World Suicide Prevention Day

Kites will soar from Canatara Park as local groups honour World Suicide Prevention Day.

Sarnia-Lambton Suicide Prevention Committee's Cathy Butler says they will be flying kites, which is the Canadian symbol for suicide prevention.

She says the theme this year is "reaching out, saving lives"

Butler says some guest speakers will be on hand to talk about their experience dealing with depression.

According to the World Health Organization, over 800,000 people die each year as a result of suicide, or one death every 40 seconds.

The event is from 6:30pm-8:30pm at Canatara Park.
