Council Briefs

A delegation on Sarnia's Water Distribution Master Plan outlined the need for outdated cast iron pipes to be replaced. As well, autoflushers need to be installed on certain pipes to prevent water from sitting longer than 72 hours and therefore increasing exposure to chlorine. Council adopted Stantec Consulting Ltd.'s study and will be working to gather more research. ----------------

Council voted five to four to have a moment of reflection at the first council meeting of each month. Scholten voted against the motion because she believes silent reflection should happen before every meeting. --------------- Council awarded nearly $48,000 to go towards the preliminary work in upgrading the Bright's Grove Lagoon system. The system's hydraulic capacity was limited in retaining the community's sanitary discharge during the winter months. Construction of a Submerged Aqueous Growth Reactor (SAGR) will begin in spring 2016 and will roughly cost $5-million. ----------------- City councillors endorsed the grant application for Centennial Park as the first priority under the Canada 150 Infrastructure Grant Program. If awarded, $836,000 will be put towards the project to help offset costs for park revitalization. ------------------ City of Sarnia Council consented to a two-year extension to the Ground Sub-Lease Agreement for the proposed six acre solar farm at the Sarnia Chris Hadfield Airport. This helps satisfy requirements in re-applying for Ontario Power Authority's approval for the development of the solar farm.
