Dead Bird Testing Underway

With the warmer weather upon us, Lambton Public Health has started conducting West Nile Virus surveillance on dead birds.

Health Protection Supervisor Lori Lucas says in certain circumstances, adult crows and blue jays dead for less then 24 hours may be considered for physical testing.

She says the agency can't collect every bird. If it isn't going to be tested, you're asked to properly dispose of it by using gloves and a plastic bag.

Lucas says if the bird is going to be tested, Lambton Public Health will come and pick it up.

You're also asked to eliminate standing water from your property where infected mosquitoes can breed.

If you come across a dead bird, you're asked to contact Lambton Public Health at 519-383-3824 or visit lambtonhealth.on.ca.
