Rainy Rededication Of Golden Hawk (Gallery)

Despite persistent driving rain, an umbrella toting crowd nearing 100, attended Sunday afternoon's rededication of the F-86 Sabre Golden Hawk at Germain Park.

Sarnia born former astronaut Chris Hadfield and Sarnia Mayor Mike Bradley were among the dignitaries on hand for the rededication in honour of late Golden Hawk Commander Jim McCombe.

Planned flyovers were cancelled and the ceremony abbreviated due to inclement weather.

Perched on its pedestal at Germain Park for 40 years, the monument, badly in need of repair, was taken down and refurbished over two years.

Volunteers put in 4,800 hours and 36 businesses donated materials and services.

A plaque near the base of the pedestal was unveiled in Sunday's dedication ceremony.
