City Could Assume Control Of Bayside Mall

Depending on the outcome of a court appearance in Toronto June 16, the city of Sarnia could take over operation of the downtown Bayside Mall.

Mayor Mike Bradley says the receiver, A. John Page and Associates, could ask to be divested of its duties.

Mayor Bradley says they've been working with the county over the last few months to be prepared for any eventuality and while taking control of the struggling mall may not be the best situation, it wouldn't be the worst either.

The receiver says it does not have the finances to pay outstanding taxes of $1.1-million due May 30.

Canadian Blood Services, Subway, Sun media and Meridian Hearing already have or will be vacating.
