Otters Even Series With Sting

The Otters scored three times in the second period to beat the Sting 3-1 Friday night in Erie, evening the best of seven OHL quarterfinal series at a win each.

After a scoreless first, Erie got goals from Connor McDavid, Remi Elie and Nicholas Baptiste to take a 3-0 lead after 40 minutes.

Sarnia got on the board four minutes into the third when Nikita Korostelev banged in a rebound. Jordan Kyrou drew an assist, his third in two games, with the other helper going to Kevin Spinozzi.

The Sting pulled goaltender Taylor Dupuis for an extra attacker but could not get anything else past Devin Williams in the Erie net.

Erie outshot the Sting 29-25.

Sarnia was unable to match the disciplined effort put forth in its 3-2 win in game one Thursday, taking 11 penalties that resulted in seven power plays for the Otters.

The penalty kill was outstanding however, holding Erie's high powered offense to just one goal with the man advantage. The Sting went oh-for-4 on the power play.

Defenseman Jakob Chychrun, despite making the trip to Pennsylvania, did not dress again as he continues to nurse an injury.

The Sting leave Pennsylvania having gained a split in the first two games. The series shifts now to the RBC Centre for games three and four Sunday and Tuesday nights.
