Sting Falls To Attack

The Sting fell 4-3 to the Attack in Owen Sound Saturday night in a game of no consequence to Sarnia in terms of playoff positioning as the regular season winds down.

In fact the Sting kept several players out of the lineup including Jakob Chychrun, Pavel Zacha and goaltender Taylor Dupuis who tried his hand at colour commentary during the second period on CHOK radio.

Justin Fazio got the start in net with Shayne Battler dressed as the backup.

Despite the depleted lineup the Sting made a game of it and briefly had a 3-2 lead in the third on Alex Renaud's 13th goal of the season. Owen Sound, however, within a span of three minutes, would get the tying goal from Kyle Platzer on the power play and the eventual game winner from Daniel Milne.

Sarnia head coach Trevor Letowski liked the effort shown by his team.

Each team scored twice in the opening period and the score remained 2-2 after 40 minutes.

Also scoring for the Sting were Anthony Salinitri (8) and Patrick White (11).

The Sting outshot the Attack 18-6 in the third and 35-31 for the game with Michael McNiven in goal for the home team.

With the win, in its final game of the regular season, the Attack moves into fourth place in the Western Conference one point ahead of Guelph.

The Sting (29-31-4-3) finishes its regular season in Guelph Sunday afternoon with the Storm looking to reclaim the fourth seed and secure home ice advantage in the first round of the playoffs.
