Sting Whips Windsor In Home Finale

The Sarnia Sting closed out the regular season home schedule Friday night with a convincing 7-2 win over the Windsor Spitfires.

The Sting scored four times in the first period and three times in the second before an enthusiastic crowd of nearly 3,500 hundred at the RBC Centre.

Hayden Hodgson scored his 21st and 22nd goals of the season while rookie forward Jordan Kyrou and defenseman Kevin Spinozzi had a goal and an assist each.

Also scoring for Sarnia were Nikita Korostelev (24), Noah Bushnell and Patrick White. Bushnell and White both have ten goals now.

Daniel Nikandrov had two assists and now has 101 points in his OHL career. Stephen Pierog also had two helpers. Overagers Pierog, Josh Chapman and goaltender Taylor Dupuis were named the three game stars. They were presented their Sting jerseys encased in glass before the game.

Dupuis recorded his 21st win of the season while Port Lambton native Brendan Johnston was pulled from the Windsor goal in the first after giving up four goals on seven shots. Alex Fotinos was beaten for three goals on 22 shots.

The Spitfires got goals in the third period from Trevor Murphy, his 24th and Aaron Luchuk.

With the win the Sting clinches seventh place in the Western Conference, setting up a first round playoff series against consensus number one NHL pick Connor McDavid and the Erie Otters.

The Sting (29-30-4-3) finishes the regular season on the road with games in Owen Sound Saturday night and at Guelph Sunday afternoon.

The Attack and Storm are separated by just one point in the battle for fourth place and home ice advantage to start the playoffs.
