Waiting For Arrival Of Tundra Swans

There have been no signs yet of the majestic tundra swans locally.

Lambton Heritage Museum spokesperson Gwen Watson says the forecast of milder temperatures bodes well but local fields are still covered in snow.

The "Return of the Swans" festival is set for March 14-April 5.

Each year the birds migrate some 6,500 km from the US east coast to their breeding grounds in the Canadian Arctic. They rest and feed for two or three weeks each year in the Thedford bog area.

In the past, Watson says the swans have arrived anywhere from the first week in February to the first week of April.
