Contingency Plan For Lagoons To Be Implemented

Sarnia Council has given the all clear to implement a contingency plan for hauling wastewater from the Bright's Grove Lagoons by truck to a pumping station on London Line if needed.

During long, cold winters, the lagoons struggle to contain all the wastewater and occassionally the water level reaches unacceptable levels.

Councillor Anne-Marie Gillis asked City Engineer Andre Morin if a partnership with Plympton-Wyoming could be considered in the future, similar to Lambton Shores and it's working relationship with Huron County.

He says the option was looked at, but it's not feasible or reasonable.

Morin says staff are proposing new technology to improve the lagoons. He says funding has been budgeted to start the project this year once an environmental assessment is complete.

The Ministry of Environment will no longer permit the water to reach elevated levels and the City's contingency plan must be deployed.
