Sarnia Police Warn Of Fraud

Police are warning residents of a possible fraud after a man attempted to swindle a woman in central Sarnia.

The Sarnia Police Service says on Wednesday morning, the woman received a call from a man claiming to be with a heating company, who offered to conduct a furnace inspection.

After an appointment was made, a man posing as a furnace service technician showed up at the residence a short time later. The man advised the woman that she would need to replace her furnace filter and that it would cost $500. The woman told the man that she thought this was too expensive, and he then lowered his price to $300. The woman became suspicious and declined the offer, at which point the man left.

Police urge all homeowners to be wary of any unsolicited offers such as this one.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the Sarnia Police Service.
