DeAngelo, Hounds Down Sting

Taylor Dupuis kept the score respectable but the result was never in doubt in Sault Ste. Marie Wednesday as the Greyhounds downed the Sting 5-2.

Defenseman Anthony DeAngelo had two assists against his former teammates and Sergey Tolchinsky had two goals and an assist to lead the Western Conference leading Hounds.

The Sting was out-chanced and outshot by the Soo 40-33 with Dupuis making several good stops.

Sarnia actually got on the board first when Daniel Nikandrov's shoot-in from centre ice bounced past Hounds netminder Brandon Halverson.

Sault Ste. Marie would storm back to score five unanswered, two on the power play, to take control of the game. The Greyhounds led 2-1 after the opening period and 4-1 after 40 minutes.

The teams traded goals in the third with Noah Bushnell rounding out the scoring with his seventh of the year. Former Greyhound Anthony Salinitri, acquired in the DeAngelo trade, had a strong game for the Sting, assisting on Bushnell's goal along with Jordan Kyrou.

The Sting (24-22-4-2) has lost three straight now but remains in seventh place in the conference, just one point behind Owen Sound and five points ahead of Saginaw. The Attack lost 4-2 to Barrie on home ice Wednesday while Plymouth beat the Spirit 5-1 at the Dow Event Centre.

Sarnia is back in action in Guelph Friday, home to Niagara Saturday and has a rematch against DeAngelo and the Greyhounds Family Day Monday at the RBC Centre at 2pm.

Listen to all the action on 103.9 FM, 1070 AM CHOK.

DeAngelo has 24 points in 13 games with the Soo and leads all OHL defensemen with 62 points in 42 games.
