A post-mortem was to be conducted Monday on a Bowmanville man who died during a firefighter training exercise that evokes memories of a tragedy in Point Edward five years ago.
30-year old Adam Brunt died Sunday after he became trapped under the ice of the Saugeen River east of Walkerton.
Brunt was enrolled in the firefighting program at Durham College and police say he'd been taking part in a training exercise for ice and water rescue certification.
Police, the Coroner's Office and the Ministry of Labour are investigating
Volunteer firefighter Gary Kendall died January 31, 2010 during Point Edward fire department ice-rescue training in the St. Clair River.
The subsequent investigation found that while there was rescue equipment in one of the fire trucks parked on shore during the exercise, there was no equipment readily available to pull Kendall ashore.
