Depleted Sting Felled By Knights Again

The Sarnia Sting has lost all five games to rival London so far this year but just once would like to give it a go with a full roster.

The Knights scored five times in the second period Friday night and cruised to a 6-2 win at Budweiser Gardens.  The Sting again had seven regulars out due to injury including two of its top scorers in Nikita Korostelev and Pavel Zacha.

Alex Renaud scored in the dying seconds of the first period to tie the game at 1 after 20 minutes but London would take over in the second to lead 6-2 heading to the third.

Max Domi scored a highlight reel shorthanded marker, flipping the puck high over Taylor Dupuis as the goaltender charged from the goal to try to beat the fleet footed forward to the puck.  Domi then tipped the puck into the empty net behind Dupuis. Hayden Hodgson made it 5-2 on the same power play on a pretty set up by Brandon Lindberg and Kevin Spinozzi but a last minute goal by the Knights would restore their four goal lead.

There was no scoring in the third.

London outshot the Sting 30-23.

Hodgson also assisted on Renaud's goal.

Domi also had an assist while OHL scoring leader Mitch Marner recorded his 35th goal of the year.

The Sting (22-17-3-2) is now tied with Kitchener for fifth in the Western Conference and has a big home and home series with the Spitfires Saturday at the RBC Centre and Sunday evening in Windsor.
