Sting Sweeps Spirit In Home And Home

Despite having a couple of key players out of the lineup the Sarnia Sting beat the Saginaw Spirit 3-1 in the back half of a home and home series at the Dow Event Centre Wednesday night.

Former Spirit Brandon Lindberg got the Sting on the board in the first period with his sixth of the season on a play set up by rookie Jordan Kyrou.

The Sting would take a 2-0 lead halfway through the opening period when Hayden Hodgson drove to the net for his ninth goal with assists going to Renaud and Nikandrov.

Tye Felhaber scored the Spirit's lone goal before the first intermission to make it 2-1.

Noah Bushnell rounded out the scoring late in the second on the power play with Hodgson and DeAngelo drawing assists.

The Sting protected the lead through a scoreless third allowing just nine Saginaw shots.

Sarnia was outshot 33-30 but got another solid performance in goal from Taylor Dupuis who was named the game's first star.

The Sting again played without defenceman Jakob Chychrun who's listed week-to-week with an upper body injury. The team learned earlier in the day that rookie forward Pavel Zacha is suspended six games for a charging infraction in Friday's loss to Erie. He has already served two games.

The Sting (10-11-1-1) has won four of its last five and is tied with the Spirit and Plymouth for second place in the OHL West Division with a game in hand.

The Whalers got by last place Windsor 4-3 at Compuware Arena Wednesday night.

It's a busy week for the Sting with games at home to Owen Sound Friday, in Plymouth Saturday and back home to Kingston Sunday afternoon.
