Sting Deflates Spirit In Third

The Sarnia Sting trailed most of the game but took the lead when it counted the most late in the third on the way to a key 5-3 divisional win over Saginaw Sunday.

Defenceman Anthony DeAngelo scored the winning goal with less than six minutes to go and iced the win in the dying seconds hitting the empty net from nearly 200 feet away.

The Spirit on the strength of two goals from captain Nick Moutrey held 1-0, 2-1 and 3-2 leads before Nikita Korostelev scored his 13th of the season to again tie it with seven minutes to go.

Also scoring for Sarnia were Patrick White (4) and Jordan Kyrou (2).

Kyrou, Korostelev, White and DeAngelo also had an assist each.

DeAngelo is now tied for third in OHL scoring by defencemen with 23 points including six goals in 18 games.

Korostelev is 20th in league scoring with 27 points in 22 games.

Sarnia outshot visiting Saginaw 31-26 with Taylor Dupuis getting the win in goal.

The Sting again played without the injured Jakob Chychrun and Pavel Zacha who is again suspended, indefinitely, after receiving a game misconduct for charging in Friday night's loss to Erie.

Sarnia (9-11-1-1) won two of three games this week and has a return engagement with the Spirit on the eve of the U-S Thanksgiving in Saginaw Wednesday night.

The Sting returns home to take on the Owen Sound Attack Friday, is in Plymouth Saturday and hosts Kingston next Sunday afternoon.
