Otters Dominate Sting Again

The Erie Otters continued their domination of the Sarnia Sting with a 7-1 win at the RBC Centre Friday night.

Over three games this year the OHL leading Otters have outscored the Sting 19-6 and have nine power play goals.

Erie scored less than two minutes into the game and added the first of three power play goals to take a 2-0 first period lead.

The Otters scored again in the first two minutes of the second and connected again with the man advantage before defenceman Anthony DeAngelo scored the Sting's lone goal to make it 4-1 after 40 minutes.

Sarnia was still in the game until Pavel Zacha was given a five minute major and game misconduct for charging and DeAngelo, during the same stoppage, was handed a ten minute misconduct for abuse of an official.

Zacha faces possible league discipline again after having just returned from a two game suspension.

The Otters scored again on the power play and added two late even strength goals to cruise to the 7-1 win.

Dylan Strome had a goal and three assists and was named first star.

He now has 49 points in 22 games and is just two points behind injured teammate Connor McDavid for the league lead.

Rookie Alex DeBrincat scored his 22nd of the season and is tied for the OHL lead in goals.

Despite giving up seven goals Justin Fazio made some outstanding saves for the Sting who were outshot 35-22. Daniel Dekoning got the win in goal for the visitors.

The loss snapped the Sting's modest win streak at two games.

Sarnia (8-11-1-1) hosts division rival Saginaw Sunday at 4pm and then visits the Spirit at the Dow Event Centre Wednesday evening.
