Grand Bend Gets Tornado Relief Funding

Lambton Shores is getting up to $720,000 from the provincial government to help with the cost of cleanup following the July 27 tornado in Grand Bend.

The money comes from the Ontario Disaster Relief Assistance Program and will help the municipality with debris cleanup and infrastructure repairs.

The EF-1 tornado brought thousands of trees down, knocked out power, blocked roads and damaged homes and cars.

Lambton Shores officials had initially anticipated cleanup costs would be in the $1-million range.

The Ontario government says it will continue to work with the municipality to assess the full extent of the damage and determine all eligible costs.

There was one serious injury reported in the storm.

A vacationing 38-year-old Toronto woman suffered a broken pelvis and internal bleeding when a tree fell on her at Pinery Park.
