Canada Shut Out Of Semi Finals

All three Canadian teams lost in quarterfinal action Thursday at the World Under 17 Hockey Challenge in Sarnia-Lambton.

Sarnia Sting rookie Jordan Kyrou and Canada White were shut out 2-0 by Sweden at the RBC Centre.

The Canadians outshot the Swedes 35-24 but couldn't beat goaltender Filip Gustavsson who inexplicably was not named Player of the Game for the winners.

Kyrou had a number of quality chances and was chosen Canada White Player of the Game.

At The Shores Recreation Centre in Forest, Russia scored three unanswered goals in the third to beat Canada Red 4-1.

Earlier in the day in Forest the defending champion Americans downed Canada Black 4-1 and Finland defeated Slovakia 5-1 in the afternoon game at the RBC Centre.

Semi final action Friday has Sweden playing the United States at 3pm at the RBC Centre followed by Russia and Finland at 7pm.

The placement games in Forest have Canada White facing off against Canada Red for 5th place at 3pm and Slovakia meeting Canada Black at 7pm in the 7th place game.
