Weapons Seized In Three Weekend Incidents

Sarnia police responded to three weapons calls in the city over the weekend, involving a machete, a knife and a BB gun.

Just before 8am Saturday, police were called to the area of McDonald's on Christina St. where they found a 38-year-old woman, who is known to police, sleeping under a street lamp.

Constable Les Jones says the woman was charged with two counts of breaching probation, and one count breaching bail. Officers allegedly found a 14 inch knife in her coat. She was also charged with possession of a weapon.

Earlier Saturday morning a 34-year-old man was arrested after reports of a man with a handgun downtown.

Police say he was allegedly investigating a reported purse theft in the area armed with what appeared to be a handgun. A BB pistol was found in his vehicle.

And late last night Sarnia police responded to a call in the area of Indian Rd. and Talfourd St. regarding a man with a machete.

A 24-year-old Sarnia man was allegedly approaching people and acting in a strange manner. When police arrived they saw the accused run into an apartment in the 200 block of Indian Rd.

Officers were concerned when nobody answered the door, but could hear voices inside and entered the apartment. The suspect was arrested and has been charged with possessing a weapon and breaching his probation.
