Today marks the beginning of a new school year for students in the Lambton-Kent District School Board.
Director Jim Costello says enrollment is down by about 500 students across the entire board.
This year also marks the fifth and final year of phased-in, full day kindergarten in Ontario.
Costello says 12 schools have been added to the list in Lambton-Kent. Almost $10-million in capital improvements were made to a number of schools across the board to accommodate the program.
St. Clair Catholic District School Board Director of Education Dan Parr, says enrollment at the elementary level is fairly stable.
At the secondary level, enrollment has declined by nearly 80 students compared to last year.
