Crane Used To Raise Barge
A crane at the end of Exmouth St. was working today to raise a 150 ton barge that sank Thursday at the north slip as it was being pushed by a small tug.
Sarnia Harbourmaster Allan Columbus says it still isn’t known why the 30 ft by 80 ft barge owned by Babcock Construction went down 30 feet from the shoreline.
The barge was carrying an excavator that leaked a small amount of diesel fuel. Booms were deployed to prevent a small sheen from spreading.
Columbus says the excavator was recovered from the water Thursday.
Both Sarnia and Pt. Edward firefighters remained on scene Friday.
