Liquid Calcium Spill In St. Clair Twp.

Emergency crews responded late Wednesday afternoon to a large spill of liquid calcium in St. Clair Township.

A transport truck leaked 14,000 L of the material on Bickford Line between Hwy. 40 and St. Clair Parkway.

Calcium chloride is a common dust control and dust suppression agent used on gravel roads.

Lambton OPP said Bickford Line between Hwy. 40 and Greenfield Rd. was expected to be closed for two or three hours, in the interest of safety for motorists, for the clean up of the spill.

A Chemical Valley Emergency Coordinating Organization Code 5 was issued just before 5pm providing notification of an incident occurring outside of industry that may require CVECO assistance.
