A tornado warning was issued Sunday evening for Watford, Pinery Park and east Lambton as severe weather ripped through the area on the leading edge of a sharp cold front.

Lambton OPP closed Highway 21 between Greenway Rd. and Main St. in Grand Bend due to downed hydro lines and trees. Motorists were advised to avoid the area.

Environment Canada was expected to send investigators to the area Monday to assess the damage and determine if indeed it was due to a tornado.

The tornado warning was issued around 7pm and downgraded to a severe thunderstorm warning about a half hour later.

Environment Canada meteorologists were tracking an area of heavy thunderstorms from western Lake Erie to east of Lake Huron that were producing torrential rainfall. Rainfall in excess of 50 mm was possible along with large hail and damaging winds.
