Officer Charged In Petrolia Crash

An 18-year member of the OPP has been charged in a collision Wednesday afternoon in Petrolia’s east end when police were responding to a bank robbery.

Investigation revealed that a fully marked OPP Ford pickup truck was travelling west on Petrolia Line when it collided with a Ford SUV travelling south on Oil Heritage Rd. around 3:30pm .

The driver of the SUV, a 32-year-old Plympton-Wyoming woman, suffered minor injuries and was treated at hospital and released.

The officer was not injured.

West Region Sergeant Peter Vanderheide, with the OPP’s Emergency Response Team, has been charged with failure to stop at a red light.

OPP continue to search for a man who robbed Petrolia’s CIBC bank branch at gunpoint Wednesday afternoon.

The suspect is described as about 6′ tall, wearing a grey hoodie, a ball cap, a white shirt, winter gloves and sunglasses. He had a black bandana covering his face.

No one was hurt in the robbery.
