Lambton OPP say there’s a reptile, believed to be a species of Monitor lizard, on the loose in St. Clair Twp.

Constable Todd Monaghan says officers got a call around 3pm Thursday after the reptile was spotted in the backyard of a Beresford St. home in Corunna.

He says it’s about 3 ft in length but is not believed to be a danger to children. However, Monaghan says residents should not approach it.

Monaghan says the reptile will likely seek warmth in various ways like lying on the warm asphalt of roads and parking lots. He says it should only be touched by experienced handlers from the Blue Water Centre for Raptor Rehabilitation (BCRR).

Anyone who sees the lizard is asked to call the BCRR or Lambton OPP.
