Explosion At Sarnia Shell Plant Confirmed
Shell officials have confirmed an explosion at the Sarnia Refinery Wednesday morning sent two workers to hospital.
Company spokesman Randy Provencal says the blast occurred at around 11:30am at their steam plant.
Provencal says a steam unit was being taken offline for maintenance at the time of the explosion.
He says a Shell employee is still in hospital in stable condition while a contractor was treated and released.
The Labour Ministry, Ontario Fire Marshall’s Office and the Technical Standards & Safety Authority are investigating.
Ministry of Labour Investigators have issued a “Do Not Disturb The Scene” requirement to the company until the investigation into the incident is complete.
