Sarnia Council has tabled a request to sell a portion of Sarnia General Hospital lands, used for Emergency Medical Services on George St., to the County of Lambton.

Mayor Mike Bradley says the offer needs further investigation.

Council did approve a staff recommendation to declare the city’s interest in the Mitton St. lands, including those used for EMS, surplus.

Sarnia Council gave Bluewater Health the green light at its last meeting June 9 to put the former hospital site on the market for a period of 60 days to entertain the known offer and others as well.

The cost of maintaining and securing the Mitton St. site since its closure in late 2011 is nearing $1-million while the cost of demolition is around $3-million.
