Chychrun Commits To Sting

The Sarnia Sting has announced it’s come to terms on a standard player agreement and education package with Jakob Chychrun, the first overall pick in this year’s OHL Priority Selection.

The 6’2″, 195 lb defenceman tells BlackburnNews.com from Boca Raton Florida, he’s excited about the upcoming season and has a very good feeling about the team he’s joining.

Chychrun says he’s doing a lot of off-ice work and his shoulder, injured late in his season with the Toronto Jr. Canadiens, is close to 100 per cent now.

He was named to Team Ontario’s U-17 program as an underage skater, the first non-exceptional status player ever to do so.

Sting fans get their first chance to see Chychrun on the ice, along with several other prospects, at Orientation Camp next month at the RBC Centre.

Public events include a black and white scrimmage on Rink 1 on Saturday June 7 at 2:30pm. The 2014 draft picks will be introduced at 5pm at the Hive Bar & Grill.

There’s a second black and white scrimmage on Rink 1 Sunday June 8 at 10am.
