Sarnia council has approved a rezoning application for a draft subdivision plan west of the Blackwell Glen subdivision.
A portion of the lands, zoned for residential during the first development phase at 1731 London Line over 10 years ago, will now be zoned for open space.
The applicant encountered unforeseen soil conditions which prohibited development.

Rezoning and bylaw amendments to develop a five-unit, multiple attached dwelling at 236 Christina Street have been approved.
The lands are located east of Christina Street South, between Talfourd and Devine Streets, directly across from Rainbow Park.

Sarnia council dodged a request for Don Cherry to be appointed to the Order of Canada.
Council voted to table the motion from city/county councillor Bill Dennis on Monday.
He had asked city council to write a letter of support to the Federal and provincial governments, but ended up offering to write the letter himself.
Councillor Chrissy McRoberts said if Dennis was willing to write the letter, they could table the request at the municipal level.
McRoberts said once the letter is complete they can forward it to Sarnia-Lambton MP Marilyn Gladu and allow her to move it forward.

Sarnia council has appointed Chrissy McRoberts acting mayor.
The role was being filled by Bill Dennis, but his appointment expired November 14. Council appoints a new acting mayor on an annual rotating basis, based on the highest votes received during the election, if the eligible member has an interest and willingness to serve the role.

Sarnia council has direct staff to work with Mike Smalls to invest in the naturalized area in Mike Weir Park.
A landscape architect, with expertise in large-scale naturalization planning, will also be sought out to assist with design plans for the rejuvenation of the Berger Road naturalized area.
Staff have been directed to return with preliminary costs to advance conceptual design services.

In terms of 2024 budget input...
Brian Clarke made his pitch for an inflatable dome. He would like to see funding included to construct a pressurized air dome for tennis, lawn bowling, soccer, baseball, volleyball, pickleball and badminton.
Robert Dickieson asked that funds be allocated for traffic calming measures on Vidal and Brock Streets. The Sarnia resident said the roads could be repainted to allocate one lane for vehicle traffic, one for bicycle lanes and where feasible, one for car parking.
Neighbourhood Connects asked for $5,000 in fee relief to host 10 events in Mitton Village next year. Sara Jackson said the volunteer group is community-driven and committed to building the neighbourhood by offering quality programming to the community. But, she said, paying for the use of the parkette, municipal parking lot, and event insurance creates an undue financial burden.
The requests will be considered during budget deliberations on December 5.
